A World of Words

Nature has blessed each and every one of us the power to shape our future; the futures of those around us, our respective societies, our nations, and the entire humanity. It is the power that resides within our hearts, and is manifested in our words. You see, our words are the carriers of our wills. As such they not only influence our own hearts and souls, but also of others.

When you’re low in spirit and feel like your sadness is consuming you, it is the incalculable power of these words that help you find yourself, and rescue you from your misery, in the hollowness of despair, it is His words of love and mercy that fill us with a renewed sense of hope and vigor. In times of hardship, it is the irrefutable faith and the undeniable hope of our families and friends in our strength which keeps us going; a faith and hope that they bring to us through their generously kind and encouraging words.
However, most of us are not conscious of the fact that we live in a world of words. As a result, we remain woefully ignorant of how much our words matter to others. They can break them or make them, affect them to be a wonder for the world, or so utterly destroy their souls that they find themselves buried beneath a million broken pieces, they once knew to be their wills. And instead of confessing ourselves to be the murderers of such spirits, we tend to advise them that they should not be so week as to let such words influence them so, that they should be strong and unheeding towards such discouraging attitudes.

While this advice generally holds true for all of us, we should also acknowledge our responsibility in knowing whether our words are healing others to live their lives to its fullest, or wounding them so that they find themselves lost in their hurt and bitterness. Some words are so callously thrown, and with such indifference that it takes time before the filth of their insults can be washed off from your soul.

Certain words are used to describe those who cannot see, cannot hear, and cannot walk because of some issue with their legs. Like blind, deaf, and crippled; and the same words are hurled as insults at those who annoy us in arguments, in quarrels, or simply when we are in a temper. It may not signify anything from the speaker’s point of view, but it does raise questions in the minds of those who suffer from these inabilities. Is their very existence an insult to others? Is something wrong with them for feeling so belittled by such a normal behavior? Even if we do not mean to offend anyone, it cannot be denied that how and what we say has far-reaching implications.

In essence, since the time of our birth till the time we finally depart for The Here-after, we carry the building blocks of a world we live in, and create for others, a world, whose beauty is the beauty of our language, whose colors are the colors of our tones and expressions. Wherein the flowers blossom and the trees grow, the mountains hold steady and the rivers flow, by the kindness of our speech, and the gentility of our attitudes. And each and every one of us, my dear readers, is a creator of these worlds. May He bless us all, the wisdom to acknowledge and understand this power, and guide us in using it to better our own lives, and of those around us. Amin.
